vineyard + Wines
Catalina View Gardens is home to a sprawling, South facing vineyard, overlooking the Pacific Ocean, on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. The property contains approximately five acres of vineyards growing thin-skinned Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes. The cool foggy mornings followed by warm sunny afternoons provide a perfect microclimate for encouraging the vines to produce fruitful small clusters with small berries. To produce the wine, Jim York, owner and vintner of Catalina View Gardens, partnered with Ken Brown, a pioneer in the Santa Barbara wine region. Ken is a winemaker and viticulturist and has mastered the production of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir since the late 1977s. While the grapes for Catalina View Wines are grown in Palos Verdes, the production is done in Buellton under the watchful eye of Ken and his team.
Their first harvest of Catalina View Wines came in 2016 and produced over 650 cases of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Production in subsequent years has been between 600-700 cases adding a Rosé of Pinot Noir and a Chardonnay Reserve to the mix. Catalina View Wines are sold to local restaurants, and markets, as well as being utilized for events here at Catalina View Gardens. A list of locations our wines are available can be found here.
In 2021 Palos Verdes Peninsula was named the 142 AVA (American Viticultural Area) in the state of California and only the 2nd for the County of Los Angeles. Read the full story here.
