Palos Verdes Peninsula AVA

Palos Verdes landowner and vintner, Jim York of Catalina View Wines, was instrumental in leading a group of eight Palos Verdes Peninsula winegrowers in the process of establishing this region as an official AVA (American Viticultural Area). After 3-years of work and multiple filings with the Alcohol, Tobacco Tax and Trade Board (TTB) in July of 2021 Palos Verdes Peninsula AVA became official as the 142nd AVA in the state in the Southwestern Coastal Region of Los Angeles County. The Peninsula becomes just the second American Viticultural Area AVA in the County — along with Malibu — and joins popular wine destinations like Napa Valley, the Sonoma Coast and Paso Robles to achieve the prestigious designation. TTB designates viticultural areas to allow vintners to better describe the origin of their wines by printing the AVA on their labels, and to allow consumers to better identify wines they may purchase. With this designation, Catalina View Wines can now put Palos Verdes Peninsula on the label, making it a true estate wine.
